Sometimes it's Hard to Submit

Surrender, Baby!

The process of Jesus' submission was no easier for Him that it is for us.

Scripture: During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. 8Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered 9and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him 10and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek. (Heb. 5:7-10)

Observation: The process of Jesus submission was no easier for Him that it is for us. “He offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save Him from death and he was heard because of his reverent submission.” When we see Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, we see him in this very moment. It seems to me that the writer of Hebrews is looking at Jesus in the Garden as he writes. He sees the Lord going through the tormenting experience of surrendering to the Father’s will. Reverent Submission is frequently an agonizing experience. Loud cries and petitions were made by Jesus. This tells me that it wasn’t an easy process for Jesus to lay down His will any more than it is for us to lay down our own wills.

Application: There is something wonderful that happens when we, through “reverent submission,” lay down our wills and become obedient. Eternal salvation flows through us. I know that it is Jesus who produces salvation alone, but He is in us and as we submit to His will salvation flows. People will come into the kingdom and know him too. It is so critical that we remain submitted to the will of the father. Apart from Him we can do absolutely nothing and no good thing comes from what we do apart from Him.

Prayer: Jesus, today I am reminded again that there is no life apart from you. I need you and want you! Please grace me to submit to your will. I call on you beautiful advocate, the great energizer and raiser from the dead. Please conquer my will. Please subdue in me every part of me that resists you. Please come and grace me to trust you. The only reason I don’t surrender to you is because I don’t’ trust you. What a rotten lie. Jesus, please for give me when I don’t trust you and eliminate in me every part that does not surrender. I love you and deeply need you.
Thank you so much for all your gracious provision.During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. 8Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered 9and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him 10and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek. Thanks for this, Daren. Somehow Jesus act of obedience has simplified the surrender, for all of us. He cracked the "polar ice cap" of our trust in Self. Having tasted the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil we are again and again duped by the broken belief that we can know good outside of relationship with Him. We see Jesus carving through the untracked landscape of trusting in the Father, so the trail can be traced. Never easier but simpler. So when i hear a familiar voice of a fellow apprentice calling from just ahead on the trail (aka D. Lindley) it affirms and simplifies again the desire for surrender. This journey is made simpler, like backpacking the Three Sister Wilderness with friends, as we take the trail of surrender, One Another style! bryan
